The group is born from the merger between 3 companies specialized in fish farming (Pan Fish ASA, Marine Harvest N.V et de Fjord Seafood ASA). Marine Harvest is the world’s leading in Fish farming. It produced about 430 000 tonnes of fish in 2007 (in majority salmon). It owns farms in about 20 countries around the world, for example, in Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Chili and Canada.
The Group is listed at the Oslo Market, town where their corporate headquarters are located. Marine Harvest employs about 9000 employees all around the world.
The Group is a member of WWF (The World Non Governmental Organization for the environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable development).

The salmon life cycle
